Friday Fun: Sharing secrets
My daughter loves to play a game called “Sharing Secrets.” We just volley a “secret” back and forth between each other, though they are usually of the “I like mangoes! I hate spinach!” variety. Occasionally I’ll surprise her—“I shaved my head once!”—but it’s mostly just our favorite things. It’s really fun to do, especially if you’re waiting in line.
Along these lines, I ran across this lovely TED talk this week about a man who collects secrets from people via postcards. You might think this means a bunch of confessions—and in some cases they are—but some are really sweet or even sad secrets. It’s a lovely project to share with your family, and you can read his postcards and share your own secrets at PostSecret.com.
And here are some more fun projects for the weekend:
Clean your hair without shampoo! Even if you don’t like it, you can say you tried it.
Mosquito traps! We live close to a river and a creek, so these will come in really handy—as will these bat boxes.
Make a spring butterfly mobile.
Measure your rainfall. If you live in Missouri like me, you’ll have plenty to measure! Then use the water you collect to water plants when it dries up.
Try any of these DIY ideas to make your home cozier.
Check out the voices of these Disney villains! It’s not really a project, but it’s really interesting to see the faces of the villains and the voices.
For some fun weekend reading…
Sandra Dodd’s “How to Be a Good Unschooler” is lovely. I bookmarked it so I can read it over again.
Aha Parenting’s 20 Ways to Get Closer to Your Child is also really worth the read.
