Plus cool science finds and videos, free things boxes, outdoor challenges and more.

Friday Fun: More homemade remedies

Make your own tiger balm massage bar to ease sore muscles. I have to giggle at this; the first time I bought tiger balm, I was 12 and shopping for the first time in a new age shop. I thought I was buying something mystical and amazing, not muscle ointment!

Check out these amazing How Stuff Works videos! Wood Sprite loves How It’s Made, and I know she’s going to get a kick out of these. They are courtesy of my fellow unschooling friend S.

You can also make your own citronella candles for the summer. And here are a bunch of fun things to do with your dandelions—including a cool salve. Here’s some info about lemon for your health, too.

Check out the amazing science news from this week. (Language warning.)

A new unschooling blog called Free Your Kids is now live. I haven’t had the chance to really check it out yet but it looks great.

Download the May Outdoor Challenge from the Handbook of Nature Study for some cool outdoor activities.

And keep this sweet reminder around when you’re having a difficult day. Oh, and this one too!

I’m a big fan of Laura Grace Weldon. If you haven’t checked out her website or her book Free Range Learning, be sure to add them to your list! This week she shared some really cool links, including How to Make a Free Things Box (fun!), the book Parenting Without Borders (now added to my own to-read list), and this cool project featuring kids making their own schools. She also has a lovely post about making heroism happen up this week.
