Plus monster mayhem, Lego challenges & more

Friday Fun: Look up old movies

12/27/13

This week, instead of scouring the web for ideas, I thought I would share with you a few of the fun things we have been up to. Feel free to leave your own ideas for weekend fun in the comments below!

Watch old movies. If you want to share some fun old movies with your kids that you enjoyed when you were young, have you tried looking them up on YouTube? Wood Sprite has watched The Parent Trap and Cats Don’t Dance online this week. In fact, we gave up cable this week in favor of free online movies plus Netflix. It saves so much money! Whatever movies you loved when you were a kid, they are probably available on YouTube (although some of them do have to be played in segments).

Make some monsters with your little monsters. The photo above is a Frankenstein that Wood Sprite made out of construction paper and markers this week. I took part by making a “zombie love” photo frame to go around a picture of Indy and me as zombies from one Halloween.

Issue a Lego challenge. Wood Sprite got a bunch of Legos for Christmas this year and I’ve been issuing challenges for her, a game that she loves to play. For example, I’ll say, “You have three minutes to build something that goes in water!” I might ask her to make something blue, or something for an Easter theme. This is a really fun game that you could use as an icebreaker at a Scout meeting or a challenge for teambuilding activities.
