Saturday deals, steals and reviews.

Family coupons, freebies and Reading Eggs

Every Saturday, I’m going to bring you some of the best homeschooling, parenting and family deals I can find. I’ll also share a review about a product or service that I really like, and hopefully it will be useful to you, too.

Today’s steals and deals are…

And today’s product is Reading Eggs. It’s a reading program from Australia that combines fun, silliness and animals to help kids learn to read. We are unschoolers, so we have dropped lots of programs that Wood Sprite did not enjoy. However, when I showed her Reading Eggs she was hooked and continues to love to play. She’s reading very quickly, and I have heard that the program helps older children who struggle with reading, too.

During each level, kids play several quick activities that help teach and reinforce reading, spelling and phonics skills. At the end of each level, a wild, wacky animal emerges from an “egg” that kids crack open by doing their activities. Their hosts are a silly ant, a Southern cat and several other goofy characters. The program has review components, but it’s not boring, repeated stuff that a lot of online programs feature. Each level is fresh and interesting. It’s a lot of fun, and you can sign up for a free trial to try it out yourself.

I think Reading Eggs is really helping her enjoy her books even more.
