DIY this week
I can’t remember where I read it, but I saw an idea to transform a medicine cabinet with leftover gift wrap. I had a few moments before our 4H meeting a couple of weeks ago, so I thought, “Why not?” and cut a few strips and taped them in our cabinet. I’m not a stickler for precise detail when it comes to projects like this; anything new and different is exciting for me. I really like how it looks—even though we still have the 1960s or so cabinet that completely provides an opposite effect!—and I might do something more “professional” looking later. Or maybe not…!
Crafting a Green World, one of my new favorite DIY sites, has a tutorial up on creating some fun greeting cards from old record album covers. Personally, I’d rather keep the record album covers—even to display them if the albums themselves broke—but it’s a good idea if you have some to get rid of. Alternatively, you can re-use greeting cards themselves in about a million different ways. Wood Sprite and I have made little boxes from old Christmas cards. They are really cute and you can even use them for gift-giving.
Dollar Store Crafts—another site I love!—has a couple of fun and easy ideas this week, too. Use your table scatter after the holidays to make your own jewelry, for example. (Wood Sprite totally hoards any scatter-y decorations I manage to smuggle into the house anyway!) And make some new candle decorations from old wallpaper. A mother in our Art Club is going to teach us how to decorate candles like this in December and I’m really looking forward to it!
What are you making this week?
