Here are some really cool, cheap ideas for edible trees, décor & more.

DIY Christmas

11/21/13

Hoping to have a totally DIY holiday, or do you just want to save some money on your decorations this year? Here are some really fun ideas that I’ve run across in planning my holidays this year so far.

Homemade edible Christmas trees: Are these not the coolest ideas ever? You buy the appetizers and treats you are going to serve anyway, then arrange them into artful tree decorations. The same site, DIY Enthusiasts, also has a step-by-step guide toward making your own gingerbread houses. Wood Sprite and I normally just use icing to “glue” graham crackers on boxes but this is much fancier!

For some extra fancy ornaments and decorating ideas, visit the DIY Enthusiasts page on decorations. Some of these look like expensive store-bought decorations that you can make really easily at home.

Dollar Store Crafts has a bunch of great ideas, too—like this cool wrapping paper wreath and bread tag gingerbread men. They also have a great tutorial for creating your own Christmas countdown with a piñata twist.

Make an elegant Christmas flower out of paper with this tutorial from Craftberry Bush.

Yesterday I was writing about DIY Christmas ideas for a website when I ran across this list of ideas from Reader’s Digest. I love almost every single idea listed here. Check out the bow wreath and make your own mistletoe ideas!

Geek Mom has some cool, geeky holiday card and decoration ideas.

Good Housekeeping has a bunch of other great DIY Christmas decoration ideas, too. I may have to add bells to everything in our house, too!
