Defining your style
After visiting more homeschooling friends’ homes recently, I’ve come to the conclusion that I am in desperate need of a stylist—or, at the very least, styling advice.
I’ve always thought that personal style was something that everyone developed over time, but I have never seemed to do it myself. I am seeing so many amazing color variations, decorative choices, homemade and found art and other incredible things in my friends’ homes, and I joke that I want to take photos only half-heartedly because seriously, while I know it’s creepy, I want to take photos of your house.
Because I want my house to look like your house.
Maybe it’s because we are finally homeowners, or maybe it’s because I’m finally settling into my own physical style, but I suddenly want to create our own perfect space. Indy was dismayed because we just painted the living room and he thought I loved it. I really do—it’s much more “us” than it used to be, as is our bedroom—but the house altogether doesn’t seem to be.
Like most Midwestern homes, the TV is the focal point of the room; I would love a separate TV room downstairs once it’s fixed up. (He approves of this idea.) I’d love a brick wall in the kitchen, a farm table, more of our own art displayed. I want to do more creative photo arrangements, and I definitely want to something about our old windows. It’s just a little overwhelming and I don’t know where to start!
How do you define your own sense of style? How do you go about creating the home of your dreams?
