Did you know that homeschoolers can do these programs (and others)?

Book It!

Remember doing the Book It program in school? For every so many books you read, you got a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. I used to look forward to those rewards because they were so easy for me to get. I couldn’t get the president’s patch for physical fitness but by golly, I could get pizza for free just by doing what I did. Wait a minute, there might be something wrong with that whole scenario…

As eyeroll-inducing as bribing children with pizza is to get them reading (hello?), it’s a nice little thing to have on the side if you’re already reading like our family does. Did you know that homeschoolers can participate in the Book It program? Just sign up and get your package in the mail.

And while you’re at it, you might want to check out the other various programs in your state that are available to homeschoolers. In my state, we can get free Six Flags passes, hockey tickets, Pasta House meals (you do have to do book reports for those—and pay your own postage) and more just for reading.

For report cards, homeschoolers can get free movie rentals (try Family Video), free skating, and even free money. Our Credit Union offers money for each “A” earned per semester with a reasonable limit that gets deposited into your child’s savings account. Most of the homeschoolers I know don’t bother with report cards, but they are handy for other reasons, too—such as when your child wants to show off his work or impress Grandma.

What programs do you participate in?
