Blogs to Follow
I’ve been finding so many different unschooling and peaceful parenting blogs lately and I wanted to share some of them with you. Some of these are older blogs that have not been updated in a while, but they contain a lot of archived, useful information. Check them out, especially if you are new to the unschooling journey and want some ideas and advice.
Learning Happens: This blog is kept by Pam Sorooshian, an unschooling advocate and mother of three. Her children are grown but she has several great posts at the blog you may enjoy.
Always Learning: This is not a blog, but a Yahoo group. It’s full of seasoned unschoolers and lots of lively discussion. You don’t want to just jump in and say, “Hi, I’m Doug and I want to know about unschooling! Tell me more!” They expect you to be able to do a search and find the information you need, which is refreshing.
The Living Free Project: All about school-free living! There are stories from unschoolers, a radio show, activism, and much more at this site.
Life Learning: Wendy Priesnitz is probably my favorite current unschooling voice. At her blog (and in her books), you’re not going to find judgment, a bunch of should’s, or anything shaming regarding how you live your life. So many other self-dubbed experts do this and it only turns me off. Wendy is practical and warm at the same time and I absolutely enjoy her writing.
The Intuitive Parent: Robin Whitcore’s blog covers a wide range of subjects, and I particularly like her pieces about homeschooling and life learning. Her recent post about the pros and cons of a co-op really hit home with me, since we have been so ambivalent with co-ops this year. We think we’ve found our niche, but the structured, weekly stuff just doesn’t work for us.
