Take the challenge and have some outdoor family fun!

52 Weeks in Nature

The Magic Onions website is hosting a simple yet fun challenge for the year: 52 Weeks in Nature. To participate, you need to take a photo of nature once a week. That’s it! It’s not complicated at all, and it will give you a year’s worth of memories at the end of the year.

You could make this into as big or as small of a challenge as you wish: go outside in at the same time each day and quickly snap a shot of something that looks beautiful (in April, for example, I love to go out and take pictures of the snails along our brick wall) or make an entire day of it, hiking and exploring while you search for the perfect picture.

Not a hiker? You don’t have to head for the mountains to see beauty in nature. In the past week before the big snows hit, we walked at one of our local parks twice. We made it around the lake (once with Sprite’s scooter) and talked to all of the dog walkers, watched the geese slide on the frozen lake and had two lovely outings with plenty of photo opportunities. Wood Sprite even chased a flock of geese up a hill, and while they were squawking at her the woman behind us walking her dog commented, “Now that looks like fun!”

This year, I have been labeling my photos on my computer by date and including a small phrase or word to help me remember them by. It’s so simple and I wish that I had thought to do it in the past so I could really track the time in pictures. It only takes a few moments, depending upon how many photos you have.
