I wouldn't want to live in a world without it

Nutella madness

The topic of Nutella came up at a family dinner last weekend. One of my relatives had never tried it, so I brought her a little sample pack I found at the store. They make to-go packs of Nutella packaged along with some small plain bread sticks, so that you can eat it as a portable snack. Although as far as I am concerned, a regular jar of Nutella is just as portable, and who needs tiny bread sticks when you have a spoon?

Let's be honest. At least 75% of all Nutella worldwide is consumed directly off a spoon.

She was amazed and delighted by Nutella, as I knew she would be. Who wouldn't? Nutella is basically what they serve you in Heaven instead of peanut butter. It is made from hazelnuts instead of peanuts, and includes chocolate. It is, in short, amazing.

Nutella was once a relative rarity here in the states. For years I could only find this European treat at Ikea stores, Cost Plus Imports, and a few other high-end grocery stores specializing in international ingredients. But Nutella has made a big push into America over the last few years, and can now even be found on the shelves of my local rural Safeway store.

The internet's rabid fondness for Nutella is probably what is giving Nutella its biggest assist right now. Nutella is one of those unassailable internet favorites, along with bacon and Sriracha sauce. (Although hopefully not being eaten at the same time.)

The classic serving suggestion for Nutella is to spread it on toast, or on uncooked bread to make a sandwich. And there is the aforementioned spoon. But if you want to go a little farther afield, you can use Nutella in Rice Crispy Treats, as the key ingredient in S'mores bars, in cupcakes, brownies, pies, and more. Here is a collection of 50 mouthwatering Nutella recipes to get you salivating!
