Easter is one of the biggest candy holidays of the year. When you think of a candy holiday, most people probably think of Halloween. But I would argue that Easter is actually bigger than Halloween, because I'm pretty sure there are a lot more Easter specific candies than there are Halloween specific ones. Most Halloween candy is just regular candy in a smaller size. But Easter brings with it a whole host of candies you can only get once a year.
(That list used to include Peeps, until Peeps decided to branch out for every holiday under the sun. Last year I think I spotted some American flag Peeps for Independence Day. When will this madness end?)
Easter has a ton of different jelly beans, more each year, it seems. My favorites always were and always will be Smuckers jelly beans. Which is too bad, because they stopped selling them a few years ago.
I also count myself as a fan of Cadbury Crème Eggs. Although these days I can only handle about one of them a year, and then only barely. They have new ones now, including Snickers and caramel-filled versions, but I still prefer the original.
But hands down the best Easter candy - and I say this as objective fact, not personal preference - are Cadbury Mini Eggs. The familiar dark blue bag contains the best little treats, with their distinctive matte finish and bespeckled color.
Cadbury Mini Eggs are made with rich, high quality chocolate. Something that is sorely lacking in most Easter candy. The candy shell is enough to keep your hands clean and add a little crunch, but not so sweet that it is overpowering.
Cadbury Mini Eggs also win Easter because, unlike most other Easter candy, they are sold in individual mini bags (in addition to the regular one-pound size). This is perfect for those of us who lack self-control, to say the least. Every year I can buy a little one-ounce bag and be happy.
