Oh, the Horror!: Must-See Movies for Valentine's Day
One of my favorite ways to celebrate Valentine's Day is by curling up on the couch and settling in for a terrifying double feature. Luckily, the horror filmmakers of the eighties have made it easy with a couple of fantastically campy movies centered around this oh-so romantic holiday. If you're in the mood for some creepy cuddle time, turn out the lights and stick close to someone special for these fantastic V-Day thrills.
My Bloody Valentine (1981)
When the teenage members of a small coal mining town refuse to give up their Valentine's dance, a masked maniac reaps vengeance upon them one body at a time. Rife with all the essential ingredients of a classic horror film, My Bloody Valentine is plain and simple gorey fun from start to finish. As an added bonus, it also features more fabulous Canadian accents than any other scary movie ever made. Just be sure you watch the real deal and not the 2009 remake.
Hospital Massacre (1982)
Originally entitled Be My Valentine... Or Else (and widely known as X-Ray), this low-budget slasher tells the tale of Susan, a beautiful woman who visits the doctor on Valentine's Day for some test results. Little does she know the clinic is being terrorized by someone from Susan's long-forgotten past. Ideal for fans of good old fashioned bloodbaths, what this movie lacks in plot and character development it more than makes up for in blood and guts.
