Oh, the Horror!: Must-See Movies for November

Many popular American horror films take place in one of three locations: the woods, an ambiguous college campus, or some tiny town in the middle of the country. However, there are also quite a few celebrated horror movies set right here in New York. Not only are the following picks locally based, they're also perfect for the final days of Fall. So grab a cup of hot cocoa, curl up close to someone special, and enjoy these classic East Coast scares.

The Amityville Horror (1979)
One of the few Autumnal horror films that doesn't revolve around Halloween, the Amityville Horror is the kind of paranormal story that will leave you feeling haunted long after the movie ends. Based on supposedly true events, the film depicts a young married couple as they're terrorized by the violent spirits of their new home in Amityville (which is only about an hour's drive away from NYC) .

Rosemary's Baby (1968)
Directed by Roman Polanski and produced by William Castle, Rosemary's Baby is perhaps the single most psychologically unsettling horror movie ever made. When newlyweds Rosemary and Guy move into an aged apartment in NYC, they're quickly befriended by the odd elderly couple down the hall. A series of mysterious events ensues, leading to a truly disturbing climax.
