Yeah Yeah Yeahs tease and The Strokes rock.

New music this week from two heavy-hitting bands

February is usually not my favorite month for new music or movies. It's kind of a wasteland, really. However, two huge bands are giving us a taste of great things to come this week. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs released a teaser for their forthcoming album, Mosquito, and The Strokes dropped a brand new single. I'd say that's a good week, wouldn't you?

Well, first I suppose you'll want to check out the songs. OK, that's fair enough. Here's the tease for the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, Mosquito, which will be released on April 16, 2013.

Karen O, as usual, looks fantastic and I really like the sound. It's ethereal and layered. I can't wait for this fourth album, and at this point I really have no idea what to expect from it. I'm willing to go with whatever the Yeah Yeah Yeahs want to do, however. Hopefully we'll get a few more teaser clips before the album drops.

One other Yeah Yeah Yeahs note: The band will likely debut a whole lot of new tracks when they appear at a SXSW music showcase at the famed Stubb's in Austin on March 13. If you're a fan, mark your calendar, because NPR will stream the performance live. Oh yeah, I should also mention that Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds are also on the bill that night. I wish I lived in Austin. Anyone up for a road trip?

Now for the other big music news of the week: The Strokes just released a new single from their forthcoming album, Comedown Machine. You can take a listen to "All the Time" on the official Strokes website right now. Comedown Machine, by the way, will be released on March 26, 2013. Personally, I like the cut. It sounds like what I expect from The Strokes, and truthfully I'm never quite sure what to expect from them these days.

Now that you've had a listen to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs teaser song and The Strokes' new single, what do you think? Hits, or misses?
