NBA MVP Candidate: Take V
The reason why a game has to be played is to decide a winner. Though there are always favorites, the idea that one team may actually beat another team is where the excitement comes from. Even if a team has a better record, looks tougher and is overall more dominating, there is always that small glimmer of hope for an upset. While this may not be the case in the MVP race, it is worth it to look at all the candidates. The overwhelming large fact is, though, Lebron James is the most worthy candidate in the league.
Though he already has three individual league MVPs to his name, the King has played basketball this season that has basically never been matched. James makes every aspect of the game, be it hitting long jumpers, making clutch plays, or putting down hard defensive stops, look like child’s play. James is the definite favorite to win the MVP race.
This season, James has averaged a relatively low 26.8 points per game. When I say relative, I mean relative to the best player in basketball. Along with points, James is averaging a career high of nine rebounds per game and is shooting an incredible 56.5 percent from the field, and 40.6 percent from the three-point line. This is coupled with the fact that James is dishing out 7.6 dimes a game, and also getting 1.7 steals.
While there has never been a consensus vote on the overall NBA MVP, this could be the year. James has been absolutely incredible. He has been a dominant force on both sides of the court, and was absolutely monumental down the stretch of Miami’s 27-game win streak. While the MVP is all but his, the question now is if James can get a consensus vote, while leading his team to another NBA Championship.
