Kindle apps to record your daily reflections.

My top four journaling apps for Kindle Fire

I love journaling. While I prefer writing in a leatherbound book with thick, textured paper when I do my journaling, electronic versions have their place, too. I got into electronic journaling when my son was a baby. I used a journaling app on my iPhone to record some new mom memories on those sleepless nights when I had a baby in one arm and only one hand was free. Good times. Now that I have a Kindle, I find it's even better to journal on. For one thing, it's bigger. It also displays text and images much more beautifully than smartphone apps. These are my four favorite apps for journaling on the Kindle.

Handrite Notes Notepad Pro: I like this app because, as the name suggests, you can handwrite your notes. The Kindle is too big for my hands for me to comfortably type with my thumbs. I use this app along with a stylus to jot down quick notes or memories. I don't use it for writing lengthy journal entries, though, because the interface is not pretty enough. There, I said it. When I write in a journal, be it electronic or physical, I want it to look pretty.

Diary: This app isn't designed specifically for the Kindle (and neither is Handrite), but it still functions very well on the device. This functions more like a real journal or diary, too. It has customizeable fonts, different themes and the ability to draw free hand. You can attach photos, search entries and export them into PDF format should you ever want to print them out. For those who want privacy, you can password protect the app so no one can read your thoughts. This app is free and is a great choice if you don't mind that it's not optimized for the Kindle.

Journal: This app is designed for the Kindle. It is affordable, at only $1, and also has several themes, the ability to add photos and password protection. I personally think this display is nicer than the other two. This would have been my go-to journaling app except for the fact that it doesn't have the handwriting ability that I need to journal.

Notes on Life Pro: This app, surprisingly, is not designed specifically for the Kindle, either. It is by far my favorite journaling app, though. Like the others, you can set passwords to protect certain notebooks if you'd like. There are lots of different templates to choose from for journaling, but there are also planners and lists to create notebooks with as well. This app does have the handwriting feature, and it's very good. Usually, when I try to write on electronic devices, it looks scratchy, but this one is smooth. It is very responsive to touch, and I never have any problems being able to read my notes afterward.
