New edition coming soon

Minecraft for Windows 10 will be free for Minecraft owners

Windows 10 will be released later this month, and Minecraft is ready. Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition will be free for existing owners of Minecraft on PC. The beta version will launch on July 29th.

For the 20 million owners of Minecraft for PC, this version will be free. It will apparently allow Windows and Xbox Live Minecraft players to play together, which is an intriguing proposition.

This is not an update to the existing Minecraft, by the way. It is a separate edition which is designed to take advantage of features of Windows 10. Mojang has not announced how long the beta will last, and there is no word how long the existing Minecraft version will be supported.
