Tom Brady talks about Wes Welker becoming a Denver Bronco

Stealing his best target

You know it is a great offseason when you find yourself acquiring one of the top receivers in the entire league. You also know you are doing well when you acquired that receiver from one of the toughest opponents in your conference. While all the Mile High city rejoiced when Wes Welker decided to leave the New England Patriots and become a Denver Bronco, those in the Boston area weren’t all too pleased. One of the most concerned, of course, was the quarter back of the New England Patriots, Tom Brady.

While speaking with a local Boston radio station, Tom Brady said, “That’s what happens,” in regards to the departure of Welker. Brady went on to say, “Of course I have feelings...I used to get caught up in angry and disappointment, but I don’ t make the decisions. The things aren’t up to me. At some point you’ve got to realize the things that are out of your control, you’ve just got to let go...” Brady connected with Welker more times than any other receiver on the Pat’s roster during the six seasons they played together.

What made the Welker move even more interesting is that before the season, Brady took a “pay cut,” by signing a contract extension for 3-years and $15 million. This was much less money than Brady could have asked for, and it was done in hopes of surrounding himself with quality players to make another championship run. Though Brady thought Welker would stay in Pat town, this wasn’t the case.

Though the Patriots have a lot of question marks in their future, Denver is finding themselves in a pretty sweet spot. Even according to Brady, Welker landing in Denver is, “...a good situation with another great team and a great quarterback.” While manning did find a rhythm with Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker, adding Welker to the mix only makes the Denver offense that much more dangerous.
