Another successful Bolder Boulder wraps up

35 five years and counting

Ah Memorial Day, breath it in. Memorial Day is a holiday where Americans remember their roots, their freedom, and how lucky they are to live where they do. On top of that, they also get a day off of work which is normally filled with boozing, BBQs, and fun with their loved ones. While traditions may vary from state to state, for those living in Colorado, Memorial Day will always be synonymous with the Bolder Boulder 10k Race. Whether you are running, cheering, or just annoyed at the traffic on highway 36, somehow you will come in touch with the Bolder Boulder.

35 years ago, a man named Steve Bosley saw his dream of creating a 10k race in Boulder come to fruition. To be truthful, according to the legend of the Bolder Boulder, Bosley wasn’t out to create a road race. In fact, according to a recent Daily Camera article, Bosley, “…set out to produce a quality track meet for kids back in 1979 after attending one he thought was shoddily organized.” Apparently Colorado hero Frank Shorter convinced Bosley that the track meet would be difficult to do, and instead he should focus on elites and create a road race. This piece of advice turned into the iconic race that now boasts 50,000 participants annually.
