A feast worthy of any meat lover awaits, if you’re willing to dirty your hands.

Tel Aviv’s NG Meat Bar

Many restaurants these days focus on gimmicks, atmosphere and unique dishes to bring in customers.  One restaurant, the NG Meat Bar in Tel Aviv, Israel, however, gets right back to basics.  They pride themselves on serving up the biggest meat meals they can manage and if you’re a lover of meat of all types, this place might be right up your alley.

NG Meat Bar first opened up in 2003.  It’s a relatively small place and, for all intents and purposes, looks pretty much like any other restaurant you might walk into.  The menu is where the similarities end.  This meat-eater’s paradise has even gathered enough fans to win a number of awards for being the best meat-oriented restaurant in the country.

When choosing what to eat, it’s possible to grab up pretty much any type of meat you could ask for.  They have meals that range all the way up to 11 lbs, though they don’t suggest you try to handle that one all by yourself.  Many of the menu’s offerings are, in fact, designed for two or more people to share.  One thing that they’re famous for is the Barbarian Meal, a giant feast of meat, bread and lettuce heads that customers get to eat sans plates or utensils.  You just grab up hunks of meat with your hands and dig in.  The Barbarian Meal features ox-tail, duck, a whole piglet, lamb and beef fillet all on one table.  This meal also comes with all the wine and beer that you can drink.

NG Meat Bar also prides itself on its boutique wine list and its extensive selection of fine beers from local breweries.  If the wine doesn’t meet your needs, you’re welcome to bring your own bottle.  For those that can’t handle the meat challenge of the place, there are plenty of other things on the menu that don’t involve meat (or involve a much smaller portion).

You can check out NG Meat Bar’s entire menu on their website to learn more.  If you plan on having a feast, make sure to call in ahead of time.  It’s not the kind of meal that they can throw together in under an hour and they’ll need time to prepare it.  For the ultimate meat experience, check the place out if you happen to be on your way through Tel Aviv.
