Hugh Jackman drama gets solid reviews, seems promising.

Weekend box office preview: 'Prisoners' leads the way

This is one of those movie weekends when I get almost giddy with excitement, particularly because the previous weeks (for me at least) were pretty blah. The weekend's biggest offerings include the crime drama Prisoners, the comedy Enough Said and the release of The Wizard of Oz in IMAX 3D. I'd say that's a nice, well-rounded set of offerings.

First, I have to tell you I've zeroed in on Prisoners as my must-see movie of the month. I love Hugh Jackman, I think Paul Dano is brilliant and for the most part, I like most movies that somehow involve Jake Gyllenhaal too. The reviews for Prisoners are very good, so I feel pretty safe swiping my debit card to see this film. I might have to hit a matinee (it is a home football game weekend here in Tuscaloosa), but I will see this one over the weekend.

Another excellent weekend movie option is the extremely well-reviewed comedy Enough Said, starring the late James Gandolfini and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Albert and Eva, a pair of soon-to-be empty nesters who find each other and begin a budding romance.  Unfortunately for me at least, Enough Said is only opening in limited release this weekend, so I won't be able to see it - yet. I intend to, and if you love smart comedies, I suspect you'll want to take note of this movie too.

Finally, I have to make mention of the fact that one of the greatest films ever made, The Wizard of Oz, is in theaters this week in IMAX 3D. I wasn't sure what to expect, so I checked out this special behind the scenes look:

The Wizard of Oz: IMAX Behind the Frame

The Wizard of Oz is the oldest movie that's ever been converted to 3D, so I'm really interested to see the final result, though I'm not sure I want those evil flying monkeys coming right at me. If you have kids who haven't seen The Wizard of Oz yet, get them to the theaters to see it ASAP!

Okay everyone, time to discuss: What movie(s) will you see this weekend?
