'The Conjuring' looks extremely promising (and terrifying).

Want to see a really scary movie trailer?

I've never even tried to pretend that I'm a horror movie fanatic. I readily admit that I'm a huge chicken when it comes to scary films. Still, I do occasionally brave the theater to see a horror film, if I think it's a good old-fashioned thriller kind of movie. I love the classic horror films. Give me a great haunted house scare over torture porn horror any day.

And that's precisely why I'm telling you about a movie called The Conjuring. This James Wan-directed horror movie looks like a winner. It opens next month, and the trailer is definitely one of the spookier trailers I've seen in a while. If you like the dark, spooky horror, this might be a great option.

Here is the trailer for The Conjuring, and seriously do not say I didn't warn you. It's creepy.

The Conjuring - Official Teaser Trailer [HD]

See? Those hands! The clapping! The always brilliant Lili Taylor heading to the basement and lighting that match! It all looks so vintage, doesn't it? James Wan, by the way, directed 2011's Insidious. The first half of Insidious scared me out of my ever-loving wits. The second half? Not so much - but wow, it was worth it for those tense moments in the first hour.

That's what I love: Movies that wind you up so tight with fear that even the most cliched horror effect will have you trying to peel yourself off of the ceiling. The Conjuring looks like it will succeed in making me levitate with fear. James Wan seems like he's got this down. Make sure the movie is incredibly tense and full of great suspense, and then scare us with the "boo!" It seems like such a simple horror movie formula - yet it's worked, over and over, for decades (with good reason).

Supposedly, The Conjuring is loosely based on files kept by paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (played in the film by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga). The Warrens also investigated the Amityville haunting. They're quite famous in ghost hunting circles, legendary even. Throw in the possibility that this haunting in a farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island, might've actually happened and well, I'm totally going to see this one.

Is anyone else a bit excited about seeing The Conjuring? If you're a horror movie enthusiast, in particular, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I suspect I'm going to have nightmares about those clapping hands for a long, long time.

The Conjuring opens in U.S. theaters on July 19, 2013. Clap clap!
