This week's new DVD releases: Not horrible
Normally, I stick to just writing about movies, but there are times when it becomes essential to let you know about a major TV DVD release. This is one of those weeks. You've got (hopefully) some nifty free time to actually relax and enjoy some movies, TV shows and probably a few football games, too. Now, let's start with movies and then I'll do the big TV reveal. I know, I'm a tease.
As far as outstanding movies go, critical darlings? We've got squat this week. But if you missed some of these films with so-so or flat out bad reviews in theaters, now is your chance to catch up. That's what I'm trying to do.
Red 2, the sequel to the really enjoyable action movie Red, is finally out on DVD. I had a blast watching Red, and I expect more of the same from this outstanding cast, including Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Mary-Louise Parker. Did I mention Helen Mirren with guns? Oh, I see I did. That's why I'm going to watch this one.
Other new DVD releases this week include the poorly reviewed biopic Jobs, starring Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs. Has anyone already seen this? If so, let me know what you thought in the comments. It just seemed very skip-worthy in theaters, but I might give it a shot if I can snag a Redbox coupon.
Getaway, the Ethan Hawke action thriller, is (at least according to a vast majority of movie critics) anything but thrilling, but hey, it's out now for cheap, so if that's your thing, I say go for it. But be warned: Critics hated this one. A lot.
And now, for the TV reveal: Breaking Bad: The Complete Series, is now out on DVD. Yep, the whole thing, including season five and a two-hour documentary, and a ton of special features. BrBa fans, I say add this to your holiday shopping list, immediately. This is a must own kind of set!
