'This Is the End' is definitely hilarious
At long last, I made it to the theater over the July 4th holiday! We just saw the bromance comedy This Is the End, and yeah, all that buzz it's getting? Totally deserved. This film is quite possibly one of the most crude movies I've ever seen, but it's also wildly hilarious. It is not for the faint of heart, or the easily offended. Just keep that in mind. You really, really don't want to see this one on a double date with mom and dad, trust me on this one.
Here's the thing: I'm not always into the raunchy, crude buddy films. Yes, I loved Bridesmaids and yes, I really enjoyed The Heat, but as a rule, it's not my favorite genre. There are times, however, when I must compromise and see a movie that my spouse is dying to see. This Is The End was that movie. Once I loosened up a bit and got over the initial shock, I was laughing so hard my stomach muscles hurt.
Maybe I just desperately needed laughs, or maybe, just maybe, This Is the End is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. If you're hoping for a film that offers a lot in the way of oh, say, a plot, forget about it. The plot is utterly ridiculous: Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Craig Robinson and Jonah Hill all wind up stuck at James Franco's fancy Hollywood Hills home when the apocalypse hits. The actors, all playing themselves, must find a way to survive, despite the destruction all around them. They also spend quite a lot of time making fun of themselves.
Oh, and then Danny McBride shows up and things get even crazier/raunchier/more offensive. Any of you familiar with McBride's humor - you now get what I'm saying. You either love it or hate it, and if you love it, you're going to really love This Is the End.
Should you see This Is the End? Did you like Pineapple Express? If so, then yes. Run to see this right now. If you don't find stoner humor and crass bromance movies the least bit funny, then please, see anything else. You've got a lot of other good options. This gang's warped humor is most certainly not for you.
And while I hope it goes without saying, This Is the End is definitely not a movie for the youngsters.
