New trailer: 'The Wolverine'
In a week where everyone's focusing on the brand new summer blockbusters that are out or about to come out (The Hangover Part III and Fast & Furious 6 both debut this week), guess what else happened? We got a new trailer for James Mangold's The Wolverine. And guess what else? It's definitely much better than than the first trailer which came out back in March.
I was worried about this movie, I really was - especially after X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Thankfully, this new Wolverine movie looks better. I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm still not sold on Mangold directing this one, but I'll probably see it anyway.
I should mention that I am not by any stretch a huge comics fan. I know a little bit, but not enough to tell you whether this latest trailer for The Wolverine follows the comics super closely. I think it does, because my spouse, the Certified Geek of the family (I love my geek) started hopping up and down when he saw this trailer, yelling strange things like "the muramasa blade can kill him" and then something about a Silver Samurai. He seemed pretty happy, for what that's worth.
OK I'll hush, here's the new full-length trailer for The Wolverine:
The Wolverine Trailer Exclusive (2013)
Any fans care to weigh in? This film takes place after X-Men: The Last Stand, right? Because Jean Grey is dead, correct? Is Wolverine having flashbacks or has Jean actually been resurrected? Cue the dream sequence...
Anyway, it does seem like Logan is struggling mightily regardless, and pretty much ready to give up on everything. Fortunately, he heads to Japan, where he runs into a man who offers, as a favor, to help strip him of his immortality. It doesn't look like Wolverine loses all of his powers, but he sure looks like he's not healing very quickly anymore. That seems very bad, particularly when he's up against that ginormous Silver Samurai.
We don't have much longer to wait until we get some answers, because The Wolverine hits U.S. theaters in wide release on July 26, 2013. As I said before, I'll see it because well, I love summer blockbusters and this is one. I'm still not entirely sure I'm going to love it, though.
