New trailer alert: 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'

Here's the truth: I had absolutely zero interest in the Ben Stiller remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty until today. I mean really, we've already had two other adaptations of James Thurber's story, why go for three? Yes, Walter Mitty is a wonderful story but come on. I was literally yawning just thinking about the film.

Then I saw the new trailer Fox just released. My eyes bugged out and I actually got chill bumps. This two-minute trailer for The Secret Life of Walter Mitty movie (directed by and starring Ben Stiller) is without a doubt one of the best trailers I've seen this year. Let me absorb it again a few more times and I'll tell you whether it's an all-time favorite too (definitely a contender).

That's right, soak it all in. Beautiful, isn't it? The song in the trailer, by the way, is "Dirty Paws" by Of Monsters and Men. What this trailer lacks in dialogue, it more than makes up for in sweepingly exquisite scenes.

It is so rare that a film can truly capture the mood of a great piece of literature, and the Walter Mitty short story is definitely that. After seeing this trailer, I'm more than a little optimistic that Ben Stiller manages to do it. To say this is a remarkably ambitious undertaking is a massive understatement. It appears, at this point, that Stiller is going to succeed. The awards buzz is already beginning.

If you haven't ever read The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, now would be an excellent time to get going. This movie opens on Christmas Day, and I've already mentally reserved my theater seat.
