Yes, you read that right. The king of monsters is back!

New trailer alert: 'Godzilla'

Nothing says "Happy Holidays" like being scared right out of your wits at 8 a.m. on a chilly December morning. That's exactly what happened when I hopped online and promptly found out that the first trailer for Godzilla was online. And honestly? I had no idea the Godzilla franchise was even getting a reboot. Apparently so, and if this trailer is any indication, this could be a pretty solid film. As a kid, I was terrified of Godzilla, thanks in large part to an older cousin who forced me to watch some of the 1950s movies. My fears are back. I know, I'm a chicken, but cut me some slack. I saw this trailer before my first full cup of coffee.

Here it is, Godzilla 2014:

Godzilla - Official Teaser Trailer [HD]

That is one seriously awesome roar, people. Things sure don't look so good for humanity. Call me crazy here, but that last shot, the iconic image of Godzilla, really made me happy. It has an old school feel, but with today's new technology. This could be a huge blockbuster in the coming year. It has that look and it certainly has that feel. I keep thinking that if this is visually as good as Pacific Rim, but with, you know, a real plot and better acting and oh yes, better writing, this could be a real winner. Anyone else get that same feeling?

I am fully aware that the last time someone tried to reboot Godzilla, things went very badly. If you haven't seen the 1998 version of Godzilla, good for you. Live your life. Don't give it a second thought. If you suffered through it, I feel your pain. Fortunately for us, this latest Godzilla effort, directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters), has great potential. I'm not just saying that because Bryan Cranston is in it, either, though that sure doesn't hurt.

I'd love to hear what you guys think about the first Godzilla trailer. This movie, by the way, will be out in May 2014, just in time for the start of summer blockbuster season. Will it be a hit, or a miss?
