I realize that the NFL regular season is winding down now (boo), and for those of us who love the game, it can be a bit of a bummer if our particular team isn't in the playoff hunt. But guess what? For the movie lovers who also adore the game, there's hope, in the form of Draft Day, the new sports drama due out in April of 2014.
The first official trailer for Draft Day, starring Kevin Costner as the Cleveland Browns' general manager, Sonny Weaver. It's all on him to ensure that his team gets the best and the brightest in the upcoming draft, and even better - Cleveland's got the number one pick. Sonny is clearly ready to shake things up, much to the chagrin of his head coach (Dennis Leary) and his owner (Frank Langella).
Here is the first official trailer for Draft Day:
DRAFT DAY - Official Theatrical TRAILER [HD] - 2014
Sports fans, what do you think? Personally, I think Draft Day looks excellent. I love movies about football, with favorites being Any Given Sunday and Jerry Maguire, mainly because they focused on pro football. I'm always fascinated by the draft and I always wonder what kinds of things go on behind the scenes in the hours leading up to the actual NFL draft. This film appears that it will deliver that to me, as it covers the actual day of - not all the other stuff leading up to it.
I'm also fascinated by the way Draft Day director Ivan Reitman includes a lot of actual NFL footage: from the commentators and analyists like Chris Berman to Jon Gruden to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. But I'm a pro football fanatic, so I would find this trailer exciting. I'm curious about what the rest of you think: Is this a potential Moneyball kind of sports film? Will it score with audiences in wide release?
I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
