This sequel looks really promising.

New trailer alert: 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'

We're finally starting to get a look at some of the most anticipated blockbuster movies of 2014, in the form of teaser trailers. They don't always tell us much, but they can help us determine the general tone of the film. That's certainly true with the first teaser trailer for Matt Reeves' Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

In a nutshell: Caesar's mad. He's more than mad, he's downright terrifying, as he leads a band of his fellow primates in a massive revolution. Remember sweet Caesar (Andy Serkis) from Rise? He's gone in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. This is an all out war between the humans who survived the virus outbreak and the apes who are determined to rule the planet.

Here is the first teaser trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes:

See what I mean by dark and foreboding? I actually really like this approach, even though I miss sweet Caesar. I mean we all knew that was over at the end of Rise, didn't we? Since this is a teaser, we only get a brief glimpse of Casesar, but that's more than enough to set the tone. The trailer itself looks really slick, and Matt Reeves did a phenomenal job with 2010's Let Me In. I see no reason not to be optimistic about Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, especially when Gary Oldman is leading the humans in this film.

I really liked director Rupert Wyatt's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, by the way, even though it's not my usual type of movie. I will confess: I've never seen any of the original Planet of the Apes movies or the TV show, so I came into Rise as a blank slate. I thought it was beautifully done and certainly thought provoking (and downright depressing). It was one of my favorite films of 2011.

What do you guys think about this first teaser trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes? I just hate that we have to wait until July 2014 to see this film!
