Hilarious alternate ending.

New trailer alert: ’22 Jump Street’

If there’s one action comedy in recent years that really pleasantly surprised me, it was 2012’s 21 Jump Street. I was totally skeptical when I found out they were doing the movie, and even with decent reviews, I still wasn’t sold on the idea. Then I saw it. And I laughed…and laughed. Sure, it’s not my usual movie fare, but once in a while you just really need a movie like 21 Jump Street. Don’t think: Just laugh.

Now the sequel is coming. 22 Jump Street is set for release in June, and I have no doubt it will be a summer blockbuster. Its predecessor made more than $138 million at the domestic box office with a March release. Now, after that kind of success, how could the sequel not go gangbusters in June?

Over the past few weeks, Sony has released a couple of trailers for 22 Jump Street, which sees officers Schmidt and Jenko (Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum) going back undercover to bust the bad guys. This time, they’re posing as college students (which seems way more likely than the high school set up from the first movie). Now, this week, we have a great new (green band) trailer that includes an alternate ending of sorts. Warning if you’re at work or if the kiddos are around: There is some inappropriate language, so keep the sound low or wait until you have a couple of minutes to yourself to watch.

Here it is:

22 Jump Street - Official Green Band Trailer (Alternate Ending)

Yep, the “power couple” is back, alright, complete with guns, an attack octopus and a still-grumpy Nick Offerman (who is super mad that the boys were so successful the last time out). Personally, I think this looks hilarious. The more I see Channing Tatum in comedies, the more I like him. I actually thought his banter with Jamie Foxx in White House Down made the movie much more enjoyable.

If you were a fan of the first 21 Jump Street movie, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this one. I have to say, I didn’t realize that the Jump Street directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, are also The Lego Movie directors. I’d say 2014 is definitely their year.
