New and noteworthy Netflix streaming movie releases
Oh Netflix, some days I really want to throw my remote at my TV because of you. You tease me by occasionally offering such wonderful films to stream, then you yank them back into the ether before I even have a chance to click play. My relationship with Netflix is definitely a love/hate deal, though I do tend to lean more towards love (most of the time).
Since I just wrapped up a few great TV series marathons on Netflix (Arrested Development and Friday Night Lights), I decided, before I launch into my next TV show marathon (Doctor Who, yay!) to take a breather and watch a few films via Netflix's streaming service. As usual, I was a tad disappointed in some of the choices, but if you look hard enough, you'll find some real gems in there.
If you're looking for a solid drama movie with some serious star power, I'd consider checking out The Rainmaker. This suspenseful drama, directed by Francis Ford Coppola (I totally just got your attention, I know I did), stars Matt Damon as a Memphis lawyer who resorts to finding any job he can - including becoming an ambulance chasing attorney. And yes, before you ask, The Rainmaker is based on a John Grisham book. It's actually a really enjoyable, solid film. The rest of the cast includes Danny DeVito, Mickey Rourke, Jon Voight and Claire Danes. Nice cast, good story and a great director: Win.
So, you want some adventure? Despite the slew of superhero films in theaters right now, do you find yourself needing a fix at home? If so, then you cannot go wrong with the biggest film of 2012, Joss Whedon's The Avengers. It features a Who's Who lineup of superheroes - from Iron Man to the Hulk to Thor and Captain America. It's a tremendously entertaining action movie and if you haven't seen it, give it a try. The Avengers is streaming right now, so go watch!
And finally, one of my all time favorite movies ever, 1988's Who Framed Roger Rabbit, is streaming right now on Netflix. I haven't seen this Robert Zemeckis-directed classic in far too long, and it was a no-brainer of a choice for me. If for any reason you (or your kiddos) haven't seen this movie, I highly recommend it.
Can anyone else offer up some great Netflix streaming movies that we can all enjoy? If so, I'd love to hear any and all suggestions, please!
