Hot new trailer: ‘The Purge: Anarchy’
Horror movie fans, take note: If you found The Purge disappointing, you might actually like the follow-up film. I say that, because the first teaser-trailer for The Purge: Anarchy definitely looks promising. I was among those who were less than thrilled with the first Purge, but maybe this time, they’ll get this right.
If you’re not familiar with the premise of The Purge, there’s basically one big thing you need to know: The story is set in the (hopefully distant) future, where for one night each year, all crime is legal. And yes, that does include murder. People understandably lock up their homes, purchase elaborate home and business security systems, and generally hunker down, hoping that they won’t become victims of violence during this 12 hour period. Of course, some people are completely idiotic, as they are wont to be in horror films, and they either get caught outside, or they are victims of The Purge at the hands of someone in their inner circle of family and friends. I mean come ON, this is a horror movie! There must be bloodshed!
Behold, the first trailer for The Purge: Anarchy:
The Purge: Anarchy - Teaser Trailer
Thoughts, everyone?
Just from this first trailer, I suspect The Purge 2 will be at least a little better than its predecessor. Truthfully? Anything would be an improvement. I didn’t hate The Purge, but more than anything, I felt like the filmmakers really missed out on a huge opportunity. The idea behind the movie was actually really intriguing, with huge potential. I, for one, wanted to see more of the Purge action from the streets – instead of focusing on the plight of just one family, as was the case with the first film.
The Purge: Anarchy is set to hit theaters on June 20, so we’ll have to wait until then to find out if this second installment can live up to the hype.
