Hint: It's showing no signs of coming down to Earth.

Guess which movie won the weekend box office?

Gravity is turning out to be one of the biggest films of 2013, money wise and review wise and everything else under the sun-wise. And once again, the Alfonso Cuaron 3D space thriller took the top spot at the weekend box office, adding to its already incredibly impressive take by another $31 million.

Everyone I know has seen or plans to see Gravity. Literally. I've found myself pushing Gravity on people hard, mainly because I really want everyone to have the thrilling experience of seeing this visual masterpiece on the big screen. It will lose a bit once it hits DVD. If you're still on the fence, go. Just go and fuss about the cost later. There is a reason Gravity continues to dominate the box office: strong word of mouth. Forget the summer blockbuster season, this is the October blockbuster season thanks to this one film!

Now, how did the newcomers perform this week? Meh. I was sure that Carrie would at least give Gravity a run for its money, but I was absolutely wrong. Captain Phillips claimed the number two spot, taking in $17.3 million. Yes, it's a drop, but it's still second place and for this time of year, it's a strong showing. Carrie wound up in the number three spot, debuting with a $17 million take. That's not awful, but it's a bit lower than Sony predicted. I think we'll see Carrie stick around in the top five for another week or two, especially with Halloween approaching.

Once again, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 hangs around the top five, this week coming in at number four with just over $10 million. In fifth place is the new action drama Escape Plan, with a pretty rotten $9.8 million.

If we really want to discuss rotten, how about the positively dismal debut of The Fifth Estate, aka The WikiLeaks movie? This one is a true stinker, and shockingly so. As EW.com points out, this Benedict Cumberbatch docudrama was a true box office disaster. In fact, it had the worst debut of any big budget movie of 2013, only managing to take in $1.74 million - only good enough for eighth place. Ouch.

For now, it seems, Gravity continues to dominate. What, if anything, did you see over the weekend?
