Great news: 'Jurassic Park 4' is definitely coming in 2015
Just a few months ago, I decided to spring for the pricey theater tickets to see Jurassic Park in 3D. Years after I first saw this groundbreaking 1993 film, I was reminded of just how brilliant (and scary) it really is. Even though I'd seen Jurassic Park umpteen times, I was still riveted to the action on the screen and yeah, some of the 3D effects were quite cool.
I've seen the sequels, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III and while they were enjoyable enough, they were nothing close to the original in scope. Steven Spielberg is a master, we all know that, and Jurassic Park is one of his finest masterpieces. Nothing else can come close to topping it in my mind.
But guess what? Jurassic Park 4 is coming. It's happening. It's real. For months, I've been following the saga surrounding this film. At one point earlier this year, some reports indicated that the whole project was "indefinitely" on hold. Universal Pictures issued a release saying more time was needed to get this thing together and make this movie the right way (well, that's not exactly what the company said, but you get the idea).
I was actually encouraged by the news. At least it meant that they weren't screwing around when it came to putting out a long-awaited, great new Jurassic Park movie for the franchise. "Patience, fans. We're going to get this right," it said to me.
As of now, it's official: Jurassic Park 4 has a title: Jurassic World. Here's all we know for sure right now (speculation, as you might imagine, is off the charts for this film): Jurassic World is directed by Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) and the film will now be released on June 12, 2015. Yes, Steven Spielberg is producing and yes, Jurassic World will be a 3D movie.
After that? Who knows? I do know one thing: 2015 is going to be a banner year for massive films. Star Wars Episode VII, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avatar 2 and now Jurassic World? Can we just fast forward through 2014 right now?!
