February 2014 Netflix releases
I can't believe it's nearly February. Just a few more hours left in this icy, shivery, horribly cold January 2014, and good riddance! For those of us still in all-out couch surfing mode, Netflix is adding a few new movies to the streaming lineup in coming days and weeks, so I thought I'd make a couple of quick recommendations. Hopefully all of these will be up and streaming very, very soon (because honestly, I don't know about you, but I'm running out of movies to watch).
If you're into classic comedy, you really cannot go wrong with 1980s Airplane! Apparently, Airplane 2: The Sequel is also streaming, but I personally didn't think it even came close to the original. And it seems that it's a Leslie Nielsen-fest on Netflix in February, because 1988's The Naked Gun will also be available for streaming. If you really want to kick things old school, Netflix will be streaming the 1971 comedy Harold and Maude, starring Ruth Gordon. I will say that this is much darker humor, but it's a cult favorite for a reason.
James Bond movie fans, listen up: You must watch Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007, the 2012 documentary that commemorates 50 years of James Bond films. It is an outstanding look at the history of Bond, and trust me, if you are a fan, you'll be completely engrossed.
Like great drama? I'd consider watching Marathon Man, starring Dustin Hoffman. It's a pretty darn good political thriller, but be warned: There is one torture scene that is (at least for me) really, really tough to stomach.
Other recommendations: The Usual Suspects, Patriot Games and MASH.
I have to ask: Do any of you have any special recommendations for Netflix streaming movies right now? If you've found a gem, please, feel free to share with all of us via the comments!
