Wait: Haven't we seen this movie already this year?

Check out the new extended trailer for 'White House Down'

You know, I could swear after watching the new White House Down extended trailer that I've seen this movie already, and recently. Let's see: A Secret Service agent-wannabe has to save the president, and the free world for that matter, from a massive assault on the White House. A paramilitary group invades, making all sorts of crazy demands, or else.

Hmmm. White House Down stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx, and I know I haven't seen either of them on the big screen lately. I'd remember that. Oh, wait, I know: White House Down is a reworked Olympus Has Fallen. Bingo!

I just caught the new extended trailer for White House Down during The Voice (stop snickering, we're down to the wire now with the final contestants). Anyway, White House Down actually looks like a halfway decent action-thriller and did I already mention Channing Tatum? Oh, I see I did. My apologies. But it sure does sound a whole lot like Olympus Has Fallen, a movie I caught on a whim earlier this year and actually liked, despite what the critics said.

If you didn't see the official White House Down extended trailer, here you go:

White House Down - Official Trailer #3 (HD) Channing Tatum, Jamie Foxx

I'm not sure we needed a four-minute (plus) trailer to get the point across, but hey, such is the way of the studios promotion. This summer is packed with blockbusters, so anything and everything's being done to make one film stand out over all the others (or really, to stand out against the juggernaut that is Man of Steel).

So, what do you think? First of all, I love the Maggie Gyllenhaal factor. You've also got Richard Jenkins in this one, so the cast is pretty solid. And let's be really honest: You either love Channing Tatum, or you hate him. If you hate him, I bet you're not going to like this movie. I know, it's a stretch - but hey, I'm instinctive that way. The same goes for director Roland Emmerich, aka the King of Disaster Movies. I can't tell you how many people argue with me about The Day After Tomorrow. They loved it, despite the fact that most critics panned the film, and they don't care. I bet those people will love White House Down, too.

The main difference between Olympus Has Fallen and White House Down (aside from the casting and I'm sure a few minor plot points), is that White House Down seems to inject a little humor and buddy comedy element in-between the action scenes.

If reviews for White House Down, which opens on June 28, 2013, are decent, I might have to catch this one as a matinee.
