It was a huge weekend at theaters.

'Catching Fire' and 'Frozen' lead Thanksgiving box office.

It seems that many of us included a visit to the movie theater in addition to turkey eating and shopping over the weekend. The numbers from this Thanksgiving weekend box office are extremely impressive. And what was everyone seeing? You guessed it: Catching Fire and the new Disney animated film, Frozen.

I'm not at all surprised that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire held on to the top spot at the weekend box office, but I am surprised that Frozen also broke records. It's been a while since we had a huge animated family film in theaters (I don't consider Free Birds to be a "huge" release), and clearly audiences were more than ready.

Families were together for Thanksgiving. And honestly, parents were no doubt itching to find things to do with the kiddos. Frozen? Yep, you bet. Lines were long for Frozen, and the fact that the movie, which boasts the voice talents of Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff, is getting great reviews makes it even more appealing. Frozen is perfect for the holiday season, period.

In terms of numbers, Catching Fire and Frozen combined to earn more than $200 million over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday period. Catching Fire made $110 million from Wednesday through Sunday and Frozen scooped up $93 million. Wow, right? I am hearing wonderful things about Frozen, so I'll probably see it soon. We opted to see Catching Fire - and I absolutely loved it. Hunger Games fans should be thrilled with this one!

Now, let's take a quick look at how everyone else performed over the Thanksgiving holiday: Third place at the box office went to Thor: The Dark World ($15.5 million), followed by The Best Man Holiday in fourth place with just over $11 million. And unfortunately, whenever you have this kind of blockbuster weekend, someone loses out. In this case, it was the new Jason Statham action movie Homefront, which only managed to take in an anemic $9.8 million over the five day weekend.

What, if anything, did you guys go see? Let's hear about it in the comments!
