What could have been!

Lawsuit gives us a peek at the Duke Nukem that never was

The legal battle between Gearbox Software and 3D Realms over Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction is over. In its wake, Gearbox has released some bits from the project, including screenshots of Duke himself with an isometric perspective, and from a cut scene in which Duke talks to General Graves.

Apogee Software notoriously spent 12 years attempting to develop Duke Nukem Forever, to no avail. Gearbox is the current copyright holder for the Duke Nukem franchise, so they were understandably upset when 3D Realms announced their upcoming release of Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction. Turns out 3D Realms had apparently neglected to tell their development company that they had sold the intellectual property rights to the franchise.

Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction was to have been released next year for PC and Playstation 4.
