World's oldest calendar found in Scottish field

Archaeologists have discovered an ancient site in a Scottish field which had been used as a calendar. The site consists of twelve small pits, each of which used to have a post standing in it. The lunar calendar even contains alignment cues that allowed users to correct the time drift inherent to a lunar timekeeping method and spot-check the dates.

This calendar predates the earliest known form of timekeeping, which were used in ancient Mesopotamia.
