There are a lot of theories as to why we tend to overshare on the internet. The anonymity of it, sitting behind your computer screen, can lend many people the bravery they otherwise would lack. And it turns out that it's harder NOT to overshare, because a lot of cognitive processing power is involved in managing other people's perceptions of us. But personally I go with the last theory: that no one notices when people undershare, so it's more of a sampling error than anything else.
