Haunting photography of this deadly lake
The Tanzanian lake that turns animals into statues
Lake Natron in Tanzania has an alkalinity between pH 9.0 and 10.5, and experiences temperatures as high as 150 degrees F. Birds which land in the lake die and are mineralized by its high concentration of sodium carbonate. Photographer Nick Brandt has taken some incredible and haunting photos of these unlucky creatures.
