The University of Iowa recently shared an animated GIF demonstrating the lost art of secret book fore-edge paintings. These paintings were done on the edges of the cut book pages, but they only appear when you fan the pages just so. In any other orientation - or when the books are simply sitting on the table - the paintings are hidden. Incredible!
