In a thunderstorm, dark lighning - a shadow version of lightning that is highly radioactive - can bathe airplane passengers in huge doses of radiation. This "invisible spray of x-rays and gamma rays" could, as it happens, be extremely dangerous, with over a million times as much energy as a bolt of regular lightning. Eep!
