Could his death have been caused by ODAP?

New evidence in the death of Christopher McCandless

Author Jon Krakauer has turned up new evidence that may explain the death of Christopher McCandless, the subject of Krakauer's famous book Into the Wild. McCandless himself blamed the wild potato seeds he had been eating, even though they have long been considered non-toxic. However, there is some intriguing information that they may cause a toxicity syndrome called ODAP in people who are sensitive to it - particularly young men between the ages of 17-25 who are already on the brink of starvation.
