Every year the Perseid meteor shower lights up the night sky from August 11th to the 13th. To watch the show, go outside (ideally after midnight) and face northeast, with as much of the night sky visible as possible. Anecdotally if you can't bring yourself to lie on the ground for whatever reason, Adirondack chairs are great for stargazing.
This year should be a good show! Although naturally the clouds have rolled in to my own sky, so I doubt I will be able to see much. Drat.
