It's real, and they donate help to local police departments
Inside the Target Crime Lab
I didn’t believe it when I first read about it, but it’s true: Target has a multi-million dollar, state of the art crime lab. When not solving Target-related crimes (like organized theft rings and forgery), the crime lab donates its time and resources to local police departments who need help solving murders, sexual assaults, and armed robberies.
Target’s lab has helped catch the man who abducted and killed Dru Sjodin, a serial arsonist, a series of armed robberies, and many more. In exchange, Target does not accept financial compensation from the police, they just ask for a department patch to be donated so that they can display it on the wall at their headquarters.
