And if so, will it help clear up some questions about the painting?
Has Mona Lisa's skeleton been found?
The identity of the woman who posed for da Vinci's famous painting has been hotly debated for centuries, along with questions about her famously enigmatic smile. Italian researchers have exhumed the 16th century skeleton of the woman thought to have been the model for the painting. The wife of a merchant, she lived across the street from da Vinci.
If her identity is confirmed, researchers will do reconstructive work to try and bring her original face back to life. But the painting itself will always be a fascinating and beautiful work of art.
