A Texas couple was horrified one night when they heard a stranger's voice in their baby's room, calling her by name and hurling sexually explicit epithets at her. They ran in and discovered that the culprit was their web cam baby monitor, which had been hacked to provide access. (Their daughter is deaf and thus was not disturbed by the voice.)
The lesson here is that parents - everyone, really - need to create secure passwords for anything connected to the internet. Make it a long password, and be sure to use different password for everything. Who knows how many other baby monitors are hacked by stealthier creeps who just silently watch?
