Elf lobby blocks construction

A new road project in Iceland is being held up by the Friends of Lava, who are citing the road project’s impact on “elf culture” to block the construction. Scandinavian culture is filled with lore and legend about elves, and people there take it seriously.

(But also, one suspects the Friends of Lava may just be using the location of the “elf church” as a convenient way to block the construction project, which will have numerous other environmental impacts.)
